Challenge

One of our customers is a large company in the Food & Beverage industry in the Benelux. They needed to upgrade their DCS application software to a SIMATIC PCS7 and keep production downtime as low as possible during the project. Our customer also needed to prepare the operational team for a completely new control system.

Solution

Using the customer's library based on Control Module Types and APL (Advanced Process Library), our experts programmed SFC types according to the customer's Functional Design Specification and standard based on ISA106. Simit and Simit Unit were also used to perform offline IO testing.

Simit was also used to optimize FAT testing and for simulations and intensive operator training.

Benefits

Extensive IO testing was not required as it was 50% faster than traditional migrations.

  • Plant downtime was greatly reduced: 80% timesaving in commissioning.
  • The application software was delivered ready for future digitization and upgrades.
  • A digital simulation twin was hand-out available for testing optimizations and for extra operator training.
